sneha and eric: sikh ceremony

in december of last year, i had the pleasure of photographing sneha and eric’s hindu ceremony which was held in atlanta, ga. on april 10th, 2010, they had their sikh ceremony (anand karaj), and I again had the privilege of documenting this special day for them. the sikh ceremony was held at the embassy suites north charleston hotel and convention center in north charleston, sc. as with the hindu ceremony, sneha’s mom had crafted beautiful floral garlands which were used throughout the ceremony, and she put together a great ganesha table which was used in the reception ballroom. not to be outdone, during the reception, sneha’s dad took the stage and serenaded the couple with a few some songs, and wow, his singing voice was amazing! he didn’t stop there though, as a little later, he brought his wife on stage and sang a song for her. and as a result raised the bar for the rest of the husbands in the room;-) there were a series of great speeches, and in particular, eric’s sister, natasha, who gave a very touching tribute to her brother showing just how much of an impact he has had in her life and the strong bond they share.

i was assisted by katie stivers of kathleen amelia photography who was attending/shooting an indian wedding for the first time. she was of great help to me and it was a sincere pleasure working with her, thanks katie!  i do have to share this story. so katie and i arrived at the hotel prior to the start of the cocktail hour to get set up shots of the ballroom. we entered the ballroom, unpacked our gear, and started shooting. some things didn’t appear as i had thought they were supposed to be from what i had been told earlier, but continued anyway. in fact, there was a live band set up, and sneha and eric were having live singers as well. so, naturally, i thought this was it. after about 20mins of shooting, the event coordinator from the embassy suites approached me (we had met earlier that morning) and kindly informed me that, (yup, you guessed it) we were in the wrong ballroom!  no harm done, however, as we had plenty of time to move next door to the right ballroom and get the shots we needed – plus we got some great shots of the other ballroom;-)

everything went off beautifully, and sneha and eric’s families did a tremendous job with all the arrangements. congratualtions to the pai and singh families and thank you for allowing us to be a part of your big day!

images featured: renaissance schaumburg electronic planning kit

several months ago, I had been contacted by the renaissance schaumburg hotel and convention center asking permission to use a couple of images of mine from a wedding i had shot there last summer. they had wanted to use the images for some promotional materials they were working on. I was later notified that the project they were working on was an electronic planning kit which they intended to hand out to prospective clients. this electronic planning kit contained a disc with complete information on details of having a wedding at the renaissance, as well as information on the hotel itself, including recommended vendors. some time had passed and one day i received an email with a draft of the disc cover design. while i knew they would be using a couple of my images, i certainly was not expecting and i was thrilled to find out that one of my images would be used as the cover design!

in the mail, on saturday, i received a packet which included several copies of this electronic planning kit, and the cover looked amazing – if i may say so myself;-)

below are photos of the front and back of the disc enclosure, as well as excerpts from the pdf presentation included on the disc showing where the cover image was used, as well as an additional image of the couple whose wedding i had photographed. the red arrows were added by me to indicate where my images had been used. i was also pleased to learn that, in this planning kit, they had placed me on their recommended vendor list.

a big thanks to the people at the renaissance schaumburg hotel and convention center for this great honor!

angel & tim: a monsoon wedding

i just got back from southern california after attending a wedding of my friends, angel and tim. it was a double ceremony with a hindu ceremony followed by a civil ceremony. from tim riding an elephant, to angel’s brother and tim’s mom performing prince’s ‘kiss’, to angel and tim’s choreographed dance to technotronic’s ‘move this’, it was one of the most creatively inventive weddings i’ve been to in a long while.

to start the hindu ceremony, tim rode in on an elephant! in and indian wedding, it’s not uncommon for the groom to ride in on a horse during the baraat ( groom’s procession). however, outside of india, i have never seen a groom enter on an elephant and that’s just what tim did. the forecast called for rain, however, while it was overcast the morning of the ceremony, it seemed that the rain was going to hold off. as families and friends gathered, and tim got on the elephant, a light drizzle started. it didn’t seem like it would get much worse. then, just as the procession started, it began to rain…no, not just rain….a monsoon! it was pouring! few ran for shelter, but what was amazing was that most of those gathered stayed out in the pouring rain and went with it….truly amazing! and at the exact moment the baraat ended, so did the rain and the skies cleared. below are just a handful of photos i had taken during the hindu ceremony.

sneha and eric

sneha and eric were recently wed in atlanta, ga in a beautiful, intimate ceremony which took place on sunday, december 20th, at 103 West. this was the hindu portion of their wedding with the sikh ceremony to follow in april. sunday morning began with an ardass (sikh prayer) at eric’s home with is mother, sister, aunt and uncle in attendance. both families then met at the wedding venue. there was a slight delay, and a little bit of suspense, as the priest who was to perform the ceremony got lost and was unable to find his way to the venue! once the priest did arrive, everything went along without a hitch and left everyone with a story to tell.

they picked a wonderful venue, in 103 west,  as well. with a rich, warm interior and christmas decorations throughout, it was the perfect setting for a winter wedding. sneha and her mom, both graphic designers, flexed their creative muscle by designing their own programs and crafting beautifully exquisite handmade garlands. a brunch was served after the wedding which included one of the absolute best desert tables i have ever seen! and from what i hear, eric’s mom was responsible for that. so from someone with an undeniably big sweet tooth, i thank you mrs. singh!

to the pai and singh families, thank you for your wonderful hospitality and for allowing me the privilege of capturing this special day!
