i just got back from southern california after attending a wedding of my friends, angel and tim. it was a double ceremony with a hindu ceremony followed by a civil ceremony. from tim riding an elephant, to angel’s brother and tim’s mom performing prince’s ‘kiss’, to angel and tim’s choreographed dance to technotronic’s ‘move this’, it was one of the most creatively inventive weddings i’ve been to in a long while.
to start the hindu ceremony, tim rode in on an elephant! in and indian wedding, it’s not uncommon for the groom to ride in on a horse during the baraat ( groom’s procession). however, outside of india, i have never seen a groom enter on an elephant and that’s just what tim did. the forecast called for rain, however, while it was overcast the morning of the ceremony, it seemed that the rain was going to hold off. as families and friends gathered, and tim got on the elephant, a light drizzle started. it didn’t seem like it would get much worse. then, just as the procession started, it began to rain…no, not just rain….a monsoon! it was pouring! few ran for shelter, but what was amazing was that most of those gathered stayed out in the pouring rain and went with it….truly amazing! and at the exact moment the baraat ended, so did the rain and the skies cleared. below are just a handful of photos i had taken during the hindu ceremony.

sneha and eric were recently wed in atlanta, ga in a beautiful, intimate ceremony which took place on sunday, december 20th, at 103 West. this was the hindu portion of their wedding with the sikh ceremony to follow in april. sunday morning began with an ardass (sikh prayer) at eric’s home with is mother, sister, aunt and uncle in attendance. both families then met at the wedding venue. there was a slight delay, and a little bit of suspense, as the priest who was to perform the ceremony got lost and was unable to find his way to the venue! once the priest did arrive, everything went along without a hitch and left everyone with a story to tell.
they picked a wonderful venue, in 103 west, as well. with a rich, warm interior and christmas decorations throughout, it was the perfect setting for a winter wedding. sneha and her mom, both graphic designers, flexed their creative muscle by designing their own programs and crafting beautifully exquisite handmade garlands. a brunch was served after the wedding which included one of the absolute best desert tables i have ever seen! and from what i hear, eric’s mom was responsible for that. so from someone with an undeniably big sweet tooth, i thank you mrs. singh!
to the pai and singh families, thank you for your wonderful hospitality and for allowing me the privilege of capturing this special day!

Sneha- You are absolutely stunning! It looks like it was a wonderful ceremony. I can’t wait to hear all the details and for Egypt too!
Oh Sneha, I cried as if I was right there. You are absolutely glowing and just gorgeous. I am so excited for you and Eric.
Can’t wait to hear all about Egypt.
These are beautiful! You’ve got so much talent – so impressive!!
As usual, these are simply great photos. I need to take lessons from you..
Amazing photos and story, as always, makes me wish I could have been there, shucks!!
Sainath, awesome pics!!! thanks so much for sharing so soon! You have an amazing eye! I can’t wait to see more!!!
u2 is currently performing on their 360 tour and I had the opportunity to go see them at the georgia dome in atlanta. i attended the concert with my wife, mona, my sister and brother-in-law (it was the first concert he’s ever attended and i can’t think of a better way than seeing u2 live!).
one negative out of the way, the acoustics in the georgia dome were subpar, quite poor in fact. however, this didn’t really take away from the amazing show u2 put on. this is the fifth u2 concert i’ve gone to, going back to the zoo tv tour in ’92. In fact, u2 is the only band i’ve seen live and the only concerts i have ever attended (correction, i did see george michael in concert last summer, but that was for mona!) one other observation…in earlier tours, such as zoo tv and pop mart, they performed many songs that were different than the album version, i.e. extended, remixed. however, here, it seemed the songs were performed without straying too far from the album versions. view the set list.
the set design was monstrous, it dwarfed everything around it! the cylindrical video screen alone is 54 tons, opens to 14,000 sq ft. and is made up of one million pieces. the screen was so enormous, that often times you found yourself just staring at it and not paying attention to the action on the stage. there are three sets total used on the tour. it has been reported that once the tour is over, the idea is to leave each one of the three structures in different parts of the world to be used as permanent convert venues.
below are photos i had taken during the show. i would have loved to have my 5D MKII, but they don’t allow such cameras for these events. so i used a canon powershot sd880(is) point and shoot. for all intents and purposes, i think it did well. out of camera, the images were about as good as you could expect from a point and shoot, so i took creative liberties with the images below hoping to make them a bit more interesting. enjoy!

Dear Sainath,
Magnificent! Even better that the real thing!!!!

Great photos Sainath. Even better than the real thing….aha
last month, the renaissance schaumburg hotel & convention center wrote an article featuring their event space for weddings. the article recently ran in India Bulletin, which is a bi-weekly indian newspaper serving the greater chicago-area. in the article, the renaissance featured few images from kavita & manas’ wedding which i had shot back in may. of the many indian weddings which have taken place at the renaissance, it was exciting that they requested use of my images to represent their article.
sagar shah, of india bulletin, was kind enough to send me files of the cover and feature article which i have included below. if you’d like to read the original article, you can find it here: renaissance article (the article is on page 35).
to read the most recent issue of india bulletin, please visit their website: india bulletin. sagar and his team have implemented a great way of reading a newspaper online…check it out.
